Are YOU searching for a lost toy?

Check Our Own Plush Animals & Soft Dolls CATALOG, or CONTACT US

Maybe we've already FOUND one just like one you need. See what people are SEARCHING for. If you have one of these toys, or know where they can get one, please help these families out!

I read each request, do the initial search, request additional information and photos, and edit most of the photos. Often I do find the lovie, so those requests never show up on this blog. I answer each comment or email that comes in about a posted request, act as a go-between to link people who can help with those who need help, and add new requests as soon as I can. Due to health problems I got way behind posting requests, so now I am trying to stay current with requests and gradually catch up on the older requests.

I can't adequately thank all of you who search for all these lovies I do post about. I get the ball rolling, but YOU are the ones who make this site work!!

Ever Made Your Own Stuffed Toy?

Have you ever made your own stuffed animal, or perhaps a rag doll, sock monkey or sock puppet? Did Mama or Grandmamma make one for you? Do you collect handmade stuffed toys?

1947 Piccaninny Boy and Girl Doll Pattern
We're now selling two Simplicity patterns from 1971 for pillow toys / pajama bags and for stuffed teddy bears and plush dogs.

We recently sold a 1947 pattern for a boy and girl Piccaninny doll pair that is highly prized by Black Americana and vintage sewing collectors alike.

We also regularly enjoy looking to see what's new at Gwen LeBlanc's folk art blog at Veruka Salt (my favorite is the luna moth), and lately I've been reading about the hobby of collecting artist teddy bears.

I remember making crude doll clothes for my Ginny doll, but I don't remember ever actually making a doll or stuffed animal, other than a sock puppet. My mother did make pajama bags for our girls when they were little. Who knows, she might have used the very same pattern we're selling now, as the time would have been just about then!

I remember making dolls from patterns very similar to the ones you have a piccie of. I can't remember now much about them but I do recall as a family we sold them sometimes to raise money for charity. Whenever I see some very smiliar it brings back pleasant memories. :)

I'm glad I was able to bring back such a pleasant family memory for you, scrawler.

This particular pattern is so popular you will even find photocopies of it for sale on eBay!

I made some soft sculptured dolls one time when I was in my 20's. It was when the Cabbage Patch doll craze was in it's heyday. I still have them at my mom's house and now Emily loves to play with them. I'm glad she has something special to play with when she goes over there.

Playing with old dolls at my grandmother's house is one of my fond childhood memories. I'm glad for your daughter's sake that you kept them.

I collect dolls, and have several books on how to make my own, and dolls clothes etc. I haven't made any yet as my biggest sewing interest is quilting, I'm working on a hand made double quilt at the moment.

Hello again, nancyrowina. I've looked at your Shallow Pool dolls, and they're very interesting.

If you're that good at quilting, that you'd tackle a double quilt, I'm sure you'd make a beautiful doll. If you ever do decide to make one, please post a link to some pictures for us.

LuAnnBB, if you can sew then it would be a great way to make plush memories for someone special in your life.

Any handmade item shows not only the personality of the creator, but also embodies the gift of TIME, a very precious commodity these days.

I have two treasured rag dolls that my grandmother made in the 70's. I don't sew much myself, but I've given them to my mother for repair or I'd post a picture of them. I'm sure she used a similar pattern, although mine aren't piccaninny dolls.

Thanks for sharing, Gem, and I hope you pass those dolls on to your own children. What a wonderful memory that will be for them, that they own something that their great-grandmother made!
