Are YOU searching for a lost toy?

Check Our Own Plush Animals & Soft Dolls CATALOG, or CONTACT US

Maybe we've already FOUND one just like one you need. See what people are SEARCHING for. If you have one of these toys, or know where they can get one, please help these families out!

I read each request, do the initial search, request additional information and photos, and edit most of the photos. Often I do find the lovie, so those requests never show up on this blog. I answer each comment or email that comes in about a posted request, act as a go-between to link people who can help with those who need help, and add new requests as soon as I can. Due to health problems I got way behind posting requests, so now I am trying to stay current with requests and gradually catch up on the older requests.

I can't adequately thank all of you who search for all these lovies I do post about. I get the ball rolling, but YOU are the ones who make this site work!!

Ever Heard of Artist Teddy Bears?

I've been reading about artist teddy bears on Laura Lynn's Teddy Bears blog posts and following the link she posted there to even more information.

We have sold a few artist signed bears over the past few years, but really didn't know very much about this particular area of collecting.

If you want to learn more about the art of creating these one of a kind teddy bears, you might want to read more for yourself.

Thanks for stopping by Rosemary!

I started collecting teddy bears with Boyds bears. After about a year I went to a teddy bear show and saw "artist bears". I had NEVER heard of an "artist bear" before, I was amazed!

These bears are each made by the artist themselves. From drawing out their own patterns... to adding the eyes and stitching on the ears!

There were several things I liked about artist teddy bears -- the faces... just seemed to almost be alive. They almost seem to "speak to you".

So much work goes into the artist teddy bear face. In many cases an artist will spend as much time on the face as the rest of the bear!

I also loved how many artist teddy bears feel... and they can vary widely. Some are soft and squishy for good hugs... some are stuffed very firmly and weighted too! I was surprised at my first show at how heavy some of these bears were!

And then of course there is the fur! Many artists use mohair for their teddy bears - alhthough some also use a high quality imported plush or even recycled fur coats! I have been collecting artist bears for almost 10 years now and their fur is still as nice as it was when I bought them.

There are still many teddy bear artists whose work I would like to "adopt". But many artists have had to stop making bears and go back to "regular" jobs :(

Unfortunately many people have never heard of an "artist teddy bear"... so I am trying to spread the word. I myself only found out from ONE friend. I never see the magazines on the newsstands... and quite often do not see artist teddy bears in shops.

I have started a website to try to tell and teach people about artist teddy bears. It's still a work in progress... but some information is there: http://www.TeddyBearCollecting.com

I would love to see more people get into the hobby of collecting artist teddy bears. Yes, I am a teddy bear artist too... but I would do this if I were just a collector... because the more people who collect artist teddy bears... the more artist teddy bears there will be to choose from!

Hugz,
Laura

Thanks, Laura, for educating us about this particular area of teddy bear collecting. Good luck with your website and sales.

We'll be taking a peek from time to time to see how things are going, and we hope you'll come back and check out our blog and stuffed animals, too.

That sounds really hard, I tried to make shirt once. It took me weeks.

You're right, mindflame, it does sound very difficult. No wonder artist bears aren't "cheap"!

Oh you're welcome and thank YOU! I've bookmarked your blog so I can find it easily to come back :) Thanks for all the good wishes! I do have some free teddy bear stuff planned for the website soon... probably for next year.
